POPCHA - What happens when a visionary artist decides to make Second Life art and artists available for viewing in a Real Life art gallery? The result is Brooklyn is Watching, http://slurl.com/secondlife/Popcha/72/140/27 a four-part conceptual art project sponsored by New York City based Media technology company Popcha. And the mastermind behind BiW is SL resident Jay Newt, aka RL artist Jay Van Buren. Part One of BiW is the large open air gallery in SL, where any SL artist may freely display their work. Part Two is the real world Jack The Pelican art gallery in Brooklyn, New York, where a computer is running Second Life at all times and visitors can view the SL art displayed at BiW. Part Three consists of blogs on the BiW web site

http://brooklyniswatching.com/ where people can post snapshots of in-world projects and comment about Brooklyn is Watching. Part Four is a weekly podcast recorded at Jack The Pelican gallery, where a panel of regulars and guests discuss what happened "in the window" in BiW, recent blog entries, or anything else they find of interest. "There is this whole art scene in SL, and its not getting the attention it deserves," Newt explained recently while overseeing the installation of a new art exhibit at BiW, while wearing a horned Viking helmet. "And there is an avant-garde art scene and audience in Brooklyn. This project is about bringing them together. The (RL) audience becomes the content for the artists in SL, and the artwork the SL people make becomes the content for the audience in Brooklyn." |
