AL ANDALUS ALHAMBRA - David Orban will be speaking on Sunday, April 27 at 2:00 pm SLT at the Abd-Ar-Rahman III Auditorium of Al-Andalus Alhambra (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Al%20Andalus%20Alhambra/129/135/50 ). His topic will be “Tolerance as a Guiding Principle for Societies and Technologies: The Rise of Robust Information Systems.” It is anticipated that this presentation will focus on the birth of new social organizations in the online world and the contributions of different cultures and people, in comparison to the fault-tolerance of networks like the Internet.

This lecture will be the first in the Ibn Khaldun lecture series, a bi-monthly event held in Al-Andalus. These lectures are meant to showcase distinguished speakers on an issue which explores the various aspects of the interaction between culture and the public sphere across real and virtual worlds.
The lecture will be preceded by a live concert with Kelvinblue Oh at 1:00 p.m. The Al-Andalus Caliphate Project is a SL reconstruction of 13th century Moor Alhambra. Membership in the community is open to all. The plan of this sim is to create a system of political and legal governance, based on notions of community self-governance, active citizen participation, equality, dignity, social justice, democracy and human rights.
On Friday, April 25, three events are scheduled. At 2 p.m. SLT Argentinian pianist Winters Kanto will perform live, playing classical piano selections as well as tango ballads, bossa jazz and boleros.
At 3 p.m. SLT on April 25, English barrister Ashcroft Burnham will be discussing the progress of the Metaverse Republic. The Republic is planned to be a legal system for SL, with real powers of enforcement originating in user-created tools and with a democratic parliament. Disputes such as broken agreements, land use, alleged griefing, extortion, etc. could be resolved |
