Redefining SL hell or heaven

Heaven or Hell... It's up to you in The Garden of NPIRL Delights

[Location yet to be disclosed] – Where does an avatar go to when its resident logs off? If the number of avatars mimicking a motionless hunchback and advertising an “Away…” hovertext is any indication, most spend their time in some kind of mindless limbo. But what if it has been an exceptionally good or bad avatar? Will it go to virtual heaven or hell?

While some residents may consider endless viewer updates, interruption of services and frequent crashes their own version of virtual hell, Rezzable Productions and the “Not Possible IRL” group are looking at ways to redefine what those concepts could mean in a virtual world.

In order to do so, they organized “a large-scale two month extravaganza loosely themed around ‘The Garden of NPIRL Delights.’” Bettina Tizzy of NPIRL said,  “This isn't just about building. It's about giving content creators free reign to further discover their creative might *flex!* and the opportunity to shape our virtual world in ways that... yea, you got it, would not be possible in Real Life.”

This is indeed what the group dedicates itself to: creating architecture, landscaping, art and much more, that would not be possible in Real Life.

Just what is so fascinating about building the impossible?

“I'd prefer to invert that.” said Tizzy. “What is so fascinating about the possible? We've been doing that all our lives and here we have a new artistic choice. It is as if we had been handed an entirely new palette. Consider a house. Here (in SL)] you don't need a roof over your head to stay dry or warm, so it becomes an esthetic choice. … I love beautiful recreations of RL too, but here we can add new elements”.

Rezzable Productions and NPIRL are finding part of their inspiration for the festival in a painting by Dutch 15th century artist Hieronymus Bosch (see image on page 2).

“This is not about recreating Bosch's Garden. It's about imagining and crafting your own. If you were to journey into heaven or hell, what would this look like, and how might you make this as immersive as possible?" According to Bettina Tizzy, “Bosch was definitely NPIRL”. And it’s exactly this ability to think out of the box that Tizzy would like to see reflected in the festival.

“Don't limit yourself to

Roc, thanks so much for the great write-up. Since we have four sims, there's still lots of room for people to sign up, and we're especially hoping that people we DON'T know or know very little will jump in and make a little fire with us!
