Ancient meets modern

It was back to Medieval England for fashion on Sunday June 8th at the barely three week old sim as its residents played host to the sim’s first fashion show: Ancient Meets Modern. Organized by  King Enrich Halasy with help from his Queen, PhillipaKate Beresford, the show featured five designers: IKA Design, House of Alisha, Morgaine Price (Mer-Elf Creations), Tayren Theas (Tayren's Fantasy Fashions) and Roxette Wise (Bluebell Productions).

The show drew an impressive crowd, with 85 people on the sim at one point. Halasy noted the number of attendees who were not in Medieval Role Play groups: “What really surprised me was that very few were from any of our own groups.”

According to Halasy, the show was Beresford’s idea: “We were building the sim and it was time to get shops here and she said, ‘You need to go pick shops that will appeal to women’," Beresford explained. “You see we were Emperor and Empress in Rome and one of the major complaints was from women nothing to do there.”

The fashion show was designed to attract women to the shopping area, with the outfits on display for sale in the shops immediately afterward. Other things the King and Queen do to attract women is host a weekly grand Ball every week and restrict nudity and offensive behavior on the sim.

When asked to choose his favorite item from among the outfits shown, the King could not decide but explained what he liked about each designer, “Having House of Alisha here was really an honor. IKA clothes have amazing textures. Tayren Theas has everything you could need in one complete package. Morgaine [Price] has really so many options with her designs. And Roxette Wise - well her things were just so elegant.”

The models each floated down onto the modern stage – custom designed and built by Insane Blackburn – from a backstage area above the main stage before strutting down the catwalk in front of the large crowd. The show kicked off with two of Morgan Price’s Mer-Elf outfits, the Elegance gown and the Holiday Ball Gown.

Tayren's Fantasy Fashions followed next. This designer is unique in that she sells a complete look that includes shape, hair, skin, AO, and all accessories. Her first outfit was called Captain of the Guard and featured a Celtic cloak with heavy shoulder armor, matching top and pants, armored boots, and a decorative sword on the belt.

Ancient and Medieval are two different times in history, so the title of this story does not work with a Medieval show.
