German TV Star Brings Talk Show to SL by Eladrienne Laval
April 19, 2007
Sabine Christiansen will use her real name in Second Life
GLOBALPLAYERS ISLAND--Sabine Christiansen, Germany's top talk show host and one of their most highly recognized journalists, will be the host of a Second Life version of her show, GlobalPlayers with Sabine Christiansen.
The new show, scheduled for early June, will be a monthly English-language talk show entirely produced inside Second Life with SL celebrities and personalities as guests. The show will be shot and recorded on location at chosen sponsor and popular sims within SL. Residents will be able to watch the shows afterwards, at a viewing room at GlobalPlayers island if they are not present for the live event. Christiansen will be present in avatar form and will be present for every monthly edition.
The real life version of the show, produced by TV21, is aired internationally on CNBC, CNBC Europe, and CNBC Asia and consists of dialogue with top international political and business leaders and produced on location at key international events from around the world.
Christiansen, who has had the number one political talk show in Germany for 10 years, has received all of the country's major awards, including Germany's Medal of Honor for her social service endeavors.
Spooky Sperber, a researcher in Germany doing a project in Second Life on the benefits of SL on Customer Relationship management, says Christiansen could be considered the Larry King of Germany. "She talks to politicians and business greats and such. She specializes in the discussion-in-the- round where she is the host and a few guys discuss a certain subject." Sperber said that he would be willing to be interviewed by Christiansen in her Second Life studio.
The new GlobalPlayers Island will be open to residents Saturday. The sim contains a studio for the SL show version, an area for the editorial team, and a "Video On Demand" screening pavilion--where a real world edition of GlobalPlayers will be shown Saturday. Christiansen will be talking to Linden Labs and SL founder Philip Rosedale and other top internet and TV executives at a media conference in Cannes, France.
"This is the next level of user-generated content," said Marissa Bergbahn, a co-founder of the German new media firm, Bokowsky +Laymann. The developer acted as the liaison that brought TV21 and GlobalPlayers into SL, created Christiansen's avatar, the show's sim, and handled the technical aspects such as the scripting and "Video On Demand" pavilion.
The show will be audio-based, using Skype or a proprietary shoutcast client. Bergbahn said the show may take advantage of SL's new voice-enable client coming this summer.
Starting Saturday, April 21, applications will be available for Second Life residents to apply for news editor positions with the show and work with Christiansen as part of the research and editorial team. Applicants may IM Bergbahn in-world for more information.
