The SciArt Media and Learning Center area

SIRINGO -  The notices began on March 13 to the subscribers of the Science group that a new and expanded SciArt Media and Learning Center would be coming to Second Life. No location could be disclosed. I had never noticed the old SciArt Media and Learning Center, but new and expanded must be better. I cover science stories, so I immediately put it on my To Be Done list.

On March 19th the Science group was told we were 24 hours away from the opening of the new center.  Yippee! I was getting excited now.

A little background research told me that James Maynard (SciArtMedia Sands in SL) is a New Hampshire resident who owns a Web design and publishing company (

http://www.sciartmedia.com/ ). He plans to use SL as his virtual office and his office is on 1/8 of a sim that took nearly a year to construct.

Being a dutiful reporter, when I logged in on March 20th, I immediately dashed over to the site, located at
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Siringo/41/68/34   Foiled again!  A box enclosed my movement area. I could roughly camera around, but decided I’d just try to be patient and wait for the opening announcement.

The announcement came at 10:00 a.m.

I went to some of his astronomy talks and found them interesting - he clearly knows a lot about astronomy, telescopes, and science history.
