Space Junky in Second Life

Gridwide - In June the Second Life/Real Life band Spacejunky announced a deal with Sony's Acidplanet software division that would allow anyone to submit a remix of the band's song, Gravitational Pull. The deal was a direct result of the band's work in SL. The contest period is over, but SpaceJunky is sharing a different opprotunity for SL residents.

The contest is called the Mosh. It's set up in a People's Choice sort of style. Users listen to two songs and pick the winner. Then another set of remixes appear and the process repeats. The Mosh system makes sure that each contender has a chance to be listened to before the voting button appears to ensure each song gets a fair listen. The Mosh then figures out the math, and slowly kicks out the songs that aren’t rated as high until there are ten left. The top ten remainders are the highest rated songs as chosen by the citizens of ACIDplanet. The creators of each song appear as a random set of letters and numbers to ensure the anonymity of the contestants.

Acidplanet hosts a monthly drawing. Anyone who votes 10 times on the Mosh page each month is entered to win ten free vintage loop libraries, just for checking out the best music on the site! On the mosh page, there are two catagories for moshes. One mosh is for contests, the other is usually 1000 new songs from all genres pulled from the last month. This month features the Spacejunky mosh and selections from June 2008.

Spacejunky initially brought the Acidplanet remix contest into SL because of the massive pool of talent in-world. A total of 109 entries were recieved. The band is in the process of judging; a winner will be announced in the near future.
