The tale of my L$5,000
by Garret Bakalava
August 13, 2008

I am only a month late on the planned “six months after the banking ban wrap up story”.  Regular readers might recall that the day Linden Lab banned banks, I had made my first deposit in order to try the SL stock market.  It’s time to reveal what I only just today learned about the fate of my L$5,000.

From my recollection, within a day or two of my “investment” the value of my shares had decreased by nearly a half.

I in no way blame what happened next on the banking ban(nor any of it, to be honest)—after all, with the CEO of “my company” sending in glorious reports from an investor meeting he flew to Paris to attend, and promises of  a gazillion real life Euros on their way to building some Second Life Shangri-la, who could think it would all turn out well?

My favorite part of the story is the French investor who had to use a “babbler” to speak French.

Thus, as you might guess, I never once looked at the value of my “investment” until this morning.

It seems on May 2nd the SL Capital Exchange wisely delisted TNW after its CEO failed to meet his obligations. The last communication from TNW CEO lex Fitzcarraldo had been posted March 26 with a glowing  update, assuring investors all was well.

His report completely ignores the fact that a few days earlier someone posted on the forums that the TNW sims had disappeared from the grid. All the medical problems his family members had faced were solved, the murky  gastrointestinal surgery had gone well, and his son was in rehabilitation.

There was no mention of his previous month’s report on the “mysterious fact” that for no apparent reason all the sale of all his items on SLEX had been disabled. Gone, too, were the promises that TNW had its own SL viewer and grid set to roll out in the near future, a viewer I just now learned of.

Just think, I could be reporting now while basking on my own sim in TNW Life™

C'est La (Second)Vie.

My story is not indicative of SL stock exchanges in general, but as I was preparing the overall update, I just thought I would share the tale of my L$ 5,000. At least the L$2.16 that I had left in the 'bank", is safely tucked away in SLWallet.

Lulz. You should probably cash that out, if only to see what sixteen Linden cents looks like :D

The land barron robbers stole far more than the banks did. I was out 800.00USD and others far more from the scams.

Linden allows it. Scam away.
