The ARTisan awakens by Therese Carfagno

Wyatt Benoir proudly presents The ARTisan.
THE ARTISTS PARK – The ARTisan is the name of a new photo magazine dedicated to some of the finest SL photography. Wyatt Benoir, also the main man behind the The Artists Park, is editor.
”I wanted to define what an ARTisan is,” Benoir said about his idea for the magazine, admitting he’s still not sure what it is.
”Now, that’s the question, isn’t it? I would define an ARTisan as someone that does something different. In a world that has so much normalcy, why should art be the same? An ARTisan stretches those boundaries of imagination and reality, and makes her/his own - builds their own sanctuary, and opens their world to us through their eyes,” Benoir said.
That’s why The ARTisan isn’t all about photos, but also about fashion, builds, and locations.
”I wanted the magazine to show some memorable and truly amazing sim designs or photo locations. One fine example would have to be the Princeton sims – some artists may not know all the numerous sims they have. Some of those locations are so inspiring to both builders and artists alike. And the articles about fashion give us some breakthrough designers that show a distinct form of art through their clothing designs,” he said.
He conceived the idea of this magazine back in April. ”I wanted something informative and fun and enjoyable to read. Once I had brainstormed up this huge monster idea, I decided oh, what the hell. Let’s do it. In the back of my head, of course, I was questioning myself what I’d gotten into,” Benoir said.
That he knew absolutely nothing about InDesign before taking on the role as the magazine’s art director as well, didn’t stop him.
”My hesitation about doing this magazine came from the simple concern of how do I put all this together. But I believe the issue did come out very nicely and close to my full idea, but I did unfortunately not get everything I wanted. But that was out of the hands of myself and the staff,” Benoir said, before he went on to praise his staff.
”Really a remarkable bunch of individuals. I proposed a release date, and they pulled it through and got it done.”
Even if Benoir suggests the magazine lacks a few things, it’s still a remarkable 120 pages thick.
”I’m honestly quite surprised at how large the magazine came out myself. But if you want to get many different viewpoints and perspectives, you should be aware it might turn out a little lengthy. That is one thing I learned from this experience. The more, the merrier,” said Benoir.
The ARTisan is meant to be a quarterly magazine. But, said Benoir, ”if the response to this issue is good, then we have been contemplating to take on more staff and make it a bi-monthly publication.”
