The stage is set for the play to start.

SLITERARY – The SL Globe Theatre, a reconstruction of where Shakespeare staged his plays 400 years ago, once again opens its doors for a bit of drama. This time, they will show "The Mousetrap" – the play within the "Hamlet" play, where Hamlet gets his suspicions confirmed: It truly was his uncle that killed his father, the king.

”We really want to push the limits of SL and bring on a full theatre experience here.” So says Enniv Zarf, the voice director of the SL Shakespeare Company. He hopes this new show will be as popular as the one they had in February.

”Including actors, we had more than 120 people in the theatre at the most,” Zarf said. ”Pretty cool. But we honestly do think this is one of the best productions around in SL. If anything, we are definitely the most elaborate. Full sets and costumes, actors from all around, and customized avatars for the characters.”

In February, they did the opening of «Hamlet»: Act I, Scene 1. "The Mousetrap" is Act III, Scene 2. Zarf laughs and says the idea of doing the play within the play was a neat one. ”And a fun one too: Kind of reflective of the nature of SL, where we’re all in a way playing the part of our avatar. But in the end, it’s a very important scene in the show, and that’s the biggest reason for us choosing it.”

Zarf says they can have many performances where not two are the same.

”Playing in SL is not as nerve racking as in RL, but it’s more problematic. There are so many small things to deal with: Turning on your mic, getting your character in the right costume, finding the right gestures, moving around, saying your lines, and compensating for the half a second of voice lag,” he said.

He tells about the last performance of the February show, where he had to step in for a character.

”For some reason, both I and a couple of others crashed a couple of times, and that hadn’t happened up until then. So we were improvising to the left and right, trying to figure out what to do when a character missed its entrance because of a crash. Fun stuff,” Zarf laughed.

Not surprisingly, he counts lag as the greatest challenge when
