Thor Bishop, one of SL surfings strongest influences, dies in his sleep.

One of the major influences on surfing in Second Life, Thor Bishop, has passed away.
Bishop (RL name is being withheld) died in his sleep this week following a battle with pneumonia.
Bishop was known for creating the short boards used by many SL surfers today, and for founding the largest surf team in the Second Life Surfing Association, “The Misfits”. An active member of the surfing community from its early days, Bishop was the only surfer to compete at every Namiko or SLSA competition.

SLSA board member Seano Osumi posted on the SLSA Web site, “The impact of his departure will be felt very strongly this coming Saturday and at all the surf comps to come.”

Saturday’s event, the last of the season, was scheduled as the SLSA Championship. It will now be permanently renamed The Thor Bishop Memorial. Bishop was ranked 11th in the latest SLSA rankings.
Thor Bishop is survived by his SL partner and Real Life fiancee Sierra Sugar, as well as real life family.
Thor Bishop was 38.
