UNIVERSITY OF KY -  Kentucky has rolling green countryside, the Black Mountain and the famous Kentucky Derby, where thoroughbred horses race for a prize. Another prizewinner for Kentucky is the University of Kentucky sim built in Second Life.

The most important thing these educators brought with them was a sense of community, and the feeling is everywhere on the SL campus. People chat pleasantly with each other; educators seem more than happy to embrace a new idea presented to them and administrators delight in the progress and growth of this educational community.

With administrative backing and funding from the MacArthur Foundation, the University of Kentucky began to work on their island in November 2007. The doors officially opened with a combined real life/SL event in March.
