SUNSET BEACH - Last August, singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega was the first major recording artist to appear in Second Life. In a short piece Vega wrote for Time magazine in May introducing Phillip Linden as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, she said she would love to return. True to her word, she will appear today at 4 p.m. SLT. While the “by invitation-only” seats are full, there is a waiting list and those on the waiting list will be directed to satellite sites in SL and will be able to hear the happenings on “Ludlow Street” an area created by Nat Mandelbrot from http://cruxy.com/. Now and for some time after the event, residents can sign up at http://cruxy.com/features/suzannevega/

and they will also be given Cruxy’s new Cruxy Player for Second Life loaded with songs off of Vega’s new album “Beauty and Crime”, set to be released July 17 by Blue Note Records. The songs on the album are inspired by New York City, where Vega grew up and still lives. Mandelbrot has built a virtual “Ludlow Street”, the setting and title of one of the more personal songs on Vega’s new album. Mandelbrot created virtual Ludlow Street incorporating custom textures with images from the past and present of the New York street where Vega’s now deceased brother once lived. Mandelbrot also used the open source build kit from Arcadia Asylum for the build. He also worked with wtih LocK Sydney as a builder of Sydney's custom car shop in Erzulie. Visitors will be able to watch concert footage, create their own street graffiti and pick up a few freebies. It’s not too late to sign up. For |
